Varicose veins in the legs

Varicose veins are quite painful for some as they are stretched out and enlarged. This is mainly due to the blood that gets pooled up in the legs. Not only are they bulged out, but they can also cause symptoms like itching, numbness, restless leg syndrome, rashes, swelling, nighttime leg cramps, sores or ulcers. Thus, it must get treated immediately to avoid further complications. You need not worry about varicose veins treatment cost because you should prioritize your health no matter what.

One of the main reasons for varicose veins is the inactivity of the legs for long periods or a sedentary lifestyle. Hence, exercise is one major way with which one can prevent the symptoms or alleviate it.

This being said there is no exact way to prevent the occurrence of varicose veins totally, proper diet and exercise can certainly reduce the chances. In fact, simple changes in lifestyle like the way you sit or stand can bring a drastic improvement in blood circulation of the body and can reduce swelling. It is a known fact that exercise increases circulation, it also helps in maintaining an optimum weight which can again decrease chances of varicose veins.

Let us look at some exercises which can help your symptoms get better and can help you with pain or any discomfort if you are already suffering from Varicose veins symptoms.

Running or walking – Just a half hour of walking at least 5 days a week can give you good health and help you with your varicose veins symptoms. If you think you are up to it, you can also take up running at a gradual pace. But make sure that you use a synthetic track or run on grass so that your joints are not stressed.

Cycling – Bike riding is also extremely helpful. You can even try out the exercising stationary bike. If you do not have the place for an exercise machine or do not have a bicycle, you can even try the cycle leg exercise. Lie flat on your back with your legs in the air and imitate the cycling motion. If you can manage it, do both legs together. Else do this exercise one at a time. Slowly, you can increase the pace and intensity. The key is to do it comfortably and not stress your body.

Leg lifts – While lying flat try putting your feet out. Lift up one leg; hold it for a few seconds. Bring it down slowly and try the same with the other leg. This can also be done while sitting down.

Lunges – While standing slowly lunge forward such that your knee is above your ankle. Hold this position for a few seconds and try the same with the other leg.

Feet Rocking – Some people may not be able to do too vigorous exercises as their varicose veins could be quite inflamed. For them, this exercise is simple and still gives moderate results. While you are standing or sitting, just rock both feet alternately.

Tiptoes – One can also simply stand on tiptoes for a few seconds at a time.
